Mission Trip Reflection
CHARIS-Barré Mission Friendship | Kontum, Vietnam | 25 July – 1 August 2015
By Martin Teo
The trip for me, started with The Church of the Risen Christ, with CHARIS members handing out the Humanitarian Forum and Fair pamphlet back in April/May 2015 (in church), and, with my return from work in Vietnam for the past 5 years.
Cliché as it sounds – “Charity starts at home”. It was Gabriel from CHARIS who referred my signing up as a volunteer to Lyn (the CHARIS representative during this trip). Lyn introduced me to Barre Group, and this so called “Trip”, which marks the beginning of many more of such trips to come with Barre Group; God’s
Grace and Will.
Reflecting back and looking forward, yes there were fault lines within the team members, like generation/age gaps (those born in the sixties and those born in the late eighties and early nineties), working experiences, and likes. However sharing one faith and having a single intent and purpose to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ, kept these individual fault lines from showing up in the length of the whole journey, so called “Trip”.
Personally, spiritually i am thankful that I had discerned and received God’s word, found in Mass reading on Wed 29 Jul 15 (Exodus 34:29-35, John 11:19-27 and Luke 10:38-42) – i.e. Keep calm the anxiety (in the heart) like Mary and also, to be like Moses, shine when proclaiming God’s word, and “veil” oneself when speaking to God.
