October 2015:

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake which struck the Hindu Kush Region on Oct 26, 2015 has jolted many parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. The Epicenter of the Earthquake located 269km NE of Kabul, Afghanistan approximately 350km from Islamabad, has caused several roof, building collapses and landsliding in Pakistan.

Communication has also been disrupted in Islamabad, where tremors of the earthquake has caused buildings to sway or collapse. Many remote areas of Pakistan affected by the quake remain inacessible as links from 4 points of the Karakorum Highway (KKH) have been cut off. As of Oct 27, 2015, the death toll has raised to up to 300 casualties with more than 2000 injured. It has been reported that over 4390 houses have been damaged.

As of October 26, 2015 the Prime Minister of Pakistan has directed Civil and military agencies to be on high alert. In addition, 6 search and rescue teams of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have been deployed in Khyber Pakhtunnkwa (KP). Looking at the severity of the disaster,Caritas Pakistan has sent out two teams; the first team is visiting Malakand Division which is the worst affected area and second team to Peshawar for coordination with provincial government department and PDMA.
