201512 Typhoon melor path

Just a few months after Koppu, Philippines once again braces itself for another Typhoon, Melor (Nona). As of 14 December 2015, Nona has made its first landfall over the shores of Laong, Northern Samar and its second landfall over the shores of Eastern Sorsogon over the town of Bulusan. It is forecasted to move Westwards towards the vicinity of Mamburao on Tuesday, 15 December 2015 and to the west of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro by Wednesday.

As of 15 December 2015, Typhoon Nona has slowed down as it crossed Northern Mindoro. Public Storm Warning Siganls (PSWS) #3 has been raised over Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang island.

Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Coordinating Council (NDRRMC) reports, a total of 162,729 families have been pre-emtively evacuated in five forecasted affected regions in the Philippines. As of 14 December 2015, 5 regions have reported power outages. Communication lines are also down in Northern Samar. Roads have also been made impassable due to the Typhoon which has left 7,366 passengers stranded on vessels, motorboats and rolling cargoes.

Caritas Philippines is currently coordinating with the dioceses along the Typhoon Melor (Nona) track for situation updates while CRS is currently deploying staff to Sorsogon to monitor the typhoon situation.
