What is the mission trip about?
Barré, an affiliate of CHARIS, is a mission group that works with ethnic minorities in Kontum, Vietnam. Their project is located in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam, where many ethnic minorities are deprived of equal opportunities and education. The further up the mountains, the more isolated and abject poverty. Having identified language and the lack of opportunities as barriers to accessing education, Barré runs a 10-year education programme for ethnic minority young adults and children in various villages.
Rolled out in 4 phases, Phase 1 has been completed and three young ethnic Bahnar natives have been educated in the English Language and are now teaching more natives English and Vietnamese in Phase 2. In Phase 3, the newly trained natives will be deployed back to their villages, where they will serve hundreds of children by providing basic language education in the two languages, giving them a renewed chance at education in public schools or employment opportunities with Barré in Phase 4.
On mission trips, missioners will teach Phase 1 and Phase 2 teachers and run interactive language lessons. There will also be an opportunity to run hygiene education workshops and activities with children of lepers, living in a community where their hygiene products are funded as a side project. Barré organises 4 mission trips a year; as such, they are seeking mission leaders to lead week-long mission trips in the future.
Come end July, a CHARIS-Barré mission team will be deployed to receive training and capacity-building as potential mission leaders. If you are interested to help lead a small team of 5 people for educational mission trips in the future, do consider joining the big family of Barré, KMF and the wonderful people of the Central Highlands. Come experience faith in action, the joy of mission work, and fellowship with team members and beneficiaries.
