I was grateful to God for His blessings but what can I give Him that He doesn’t already own? In Matthew 25, Christ identified himself with those suffering, saying, “Whatever you did for the least... you did it unto Me.” So, when I serve those who suffer, I get to show my love for Him.
During my 2 years supporting an orphanage in Hmawbi, Myanmar, a spirited 3-year-old girl always hovered around me, eager to serve tea and playhouse. She brought me a lot of joy and laughter. I experienced both joy and suffering, which offered opportunities to practice virtues and trust in God. I found a happiness that did not depend so much on what was Happening externally, as on my closeness with Jesus and Mary, which gave me strength and joy to serve God by serving the vulnerable and marginalised. So, forget yourself and make room for God. By emptying yourself, you allow Christ to live in you; and through you, bring His love to those in need.
