Grant applications go through a rigorous grant process that includes application, evaluation, approval, disbursement, and monitoring and reporting.
Grants are assessed by CHARIS Grants Committee and then decided by CHARIS Board.
In assessing these grant applications, CHARIS follows a set of principles of funding.
All applicants will be informed of the results of their grant application.
Successful applicants will be required to provide ongoing or final reports to CHARIS on their grant. These reports should cover:
- Description of the project, including whether stated objectives and outcomes were achieved
- Detailed breakdown on usage of funds
- Relevant updates
- Photographic evidence as appropriate
Additionally, please read the following guidelines by Caritas Internationalis:
For Disasters Aid
- Preference is given to Catholic organisations, groups or churches carrying out the disaster relief work.
- Priority is given to needs in ASEAN countries
- We prefer giving aid which is of direct benefit to victims and generally minimize funding of administrative or operational costs.
- We give consideration to the magnitude of a disaster and its effects on the affected community
- Our assessment of magnitude of disaster takes into account the local conditions as well as the level of available support within that country
- We give preference to funding for reconstruction and rehabilitation phases (that is, medium to longer term phases as opposed to immediate aftermath)
- We give preference to endeavours that have potential to strengthen the spirit of volunteerism and which support the faith and formation of our volunteers and/or parishioners
- We give preference to endeavours that allow CHARIS (and/or Singapore church groups or parishes) to collaborate and/or send volunteers to undertake direct hands-on mission or other work to build capacity and to encourage more to volunteer
- Funding should support activities or projects which are in line with the social mission and teachings of the Catholic Church
