Our Response

CHARIS pledged PHP 580,000 to the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco (FMA), to be used for the basic needs of the refugees. 14,000 pieces of N95 masks have been sent over to NASSA/Caritas Philippines, Focolare, and the Salesian Sisters.

We are staying in touch with various parties to understand their immediate needs, are continuing to support in every way we can.

On the 12th of Jan 2020, Taal Volcano started spewing smoke and ashes, progressing into magmatic eruptions on the morning of 13th Jan 2020; prompting thousands of people to evacuate in the midst of a possible explosive eruption and volcanic tsunami. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised its alert level from level one to four out of five - meaning a "hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days".

As of 14th Jan 2020, the government's disaster response agency counted more than 30,000 evacuees. Numbers are expected to increase.
