LOVING BEYOND OUR SHORES
As the official arm of overseas humanitarian aid in the Archdiocese of Singapore, Caritas Humanitarian Aid & Relief Initiatives, Singapore (CHARIS) has responded to numerous disasters and humanitarian situations on behalf of the Catholic community in Singapore over the past months. Some examples shown in the video are covered below.
Floods in India and Bangladesh

Super Typhoon in the Philippines
CHARIS supported the Relief and Rehabilitation Unit - Archdiocese of Cebu with S$ 30,000 for improving water, sanitation and hygiene for some 144 survivors in Boljoon, Philippines. CHARIS has also funded this cause in other ways. Read about it here.
In December 2021, Typhoon Rai (locally known as Odette) hit the Philippines and devastated the southern and central regions of the archipelago. Extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture was recorded, affecting houses, hospitals and schools. The official death toll exceeded 400.
Clean water in Sri Lanka
CHARIS supported Caritas SED-Galle with over S$ 18,000 for the upgrading of drinking water and sanitation facilities. More than 500 people have improved access to safe drinking water and better hygiene.
Through a needs assessment in the Diocese of Galle, Sri Lanka, low income households and marginalised communities were lacking access to safe drinking water and sanitary facilities.
